The Neighbourhood Vet is looking for an HR Coordinator to join our team

Do you like people both people and animals?  The Neighbourhood Vet is looking for an HR coordinator to fit in with our crazy bunch.  We started as a single vet practice in East Dulwich 10 years ago and have now grown to have 3 practices with 60 staff.  We are a close team who work to a high standard, and we are welcoming but not intimidating.  We know that our most important asset is our team and we have grown our practice by focussing on looking after each other, then pets, then clients.

What we want from you

We are looking first and foremost for someone who “gets” what we are trying to achieve and can fit into our team culture and values. We would like someone with confidence in their own abilities, who can work in a busy, sometimes high-pressure environment, can manage time and priorities and who gets the work done each day. And we want someone who can have a laugh (and sometimes a cry!) with the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all HR and payroll databases and ensuring these are updated as required
  • Ensure all employee paperwork is correct including contracts, right to work, P45s, medical and drivers declarations
  • Approve and record employees’ annual leave
  • Manage employees' benefits and rewards related to service length
  • Create and publish rotas for all teams (vets, nurses, reception/ administration)
  • Set-up and manage the daily vet diary
  • Assist with organising training/ CPD, reporting attendance, feedback and reviews/ appraisals
  • Assist with recruitment and inductions for new employees
  • Ensure new starters and leavers' documentation is completed following the latest policies
  • Assist with employees' working relationships and manage employees' queries promptly
  • Ensure that confidential and sensitive information is treated accordingly and in line with HR policy and GDPR guidelines.
  • Provide HR reports and other written material as necessary (e.g. monthly/ quarterly HR updates, exit interview reports and notes from disciplinary meetings)
  • Answer general HR queries, escalating to the relevant person when required
  • Ad hoc co-ordination and administration support
  • Supporting the management team

Key Skills

  • Previous experience in HR and a customer focus environment is essential
  • Working knowledge of HR policy and practice, and an understanding of employment law
  • Proven experience of working with sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, communication, problem-solving & creative thinking skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills with a precise attention to detail is essential
  • Ability to work independently and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office and excellent IT skills
  • Fast thinker, self-motivated, proactive
  • Ability to prioritise your workload, taking the initiative when appropriate
